00:14

I: Where are you from?

00:16

P: I’m from, I was born in Mesa, Arizona, but I’ve lived here ever since I was five in Cruces. And my age?

00:29

I: Yeah, sorry.

00:30

P: Twenty-one, I’m twenty-one.

00:34

I: Can you tell me about your friends?

00:37

P: Um, (3.0) I have a few really good friends that I always just hang out with, talk to about anything. Uhh.

00:58

I: How did you meet them?

01:02

P: I met a couple of my best friends in high school and in middle school and all through, throughout college. Um, and then I met other ones in college and also my girlfriend. Um, yeah.

01:27

I: What is your favorite memory? And why?

01:34

P: Oh. (laughs) My favorite memory.(7.0)  I’m just gonna go with the most recent one, I guess. Is whenever (3.0) me and my family took a trip to Florida, Orlando and we went to Disney World and Universal. And it was just a really good time, fun time.

02:07

I: What was your favorite thing or favorite things to do as a kid?

02:11

P: Hmm.(3.0) Probably definitely (2.0) like (2.0) hanging out with my brothers doing like going outside playing, football, baseball, basketball, whatever. Just being in the moment with them.

02:35

I: Nice. Can you tell me about your family?

02:41

P: (sigh) um, so it’s me. I have two younger brothers. One is eighteen, I believe, and the other one is nineteen. And then, I have a mom and dad, obviously. (laughs) but they are currently divorced. So. Uhhh. Yeah, that’s just, that’s what I’m gonna say about that. (laughs)

03:28

I: (laughs) Can you tell me more about your siblings?

03:31

P: Um, (2.0) uh, let’s see. The- my nineteen-year-old brother he is currently going to DACC. Um, I wanna say he’s going for something in business. I honestly don’t know. (laughs) But I think he’s going for actually advertisement? or marketing? I’m not sure. Um, and then the eighteen-year-old, he is a senior in high school right now. Um, he’s playing basketball. Um, and yeah, they’re just both growing up so fast. (laughs)

04:19

I: Nice. You wanna talk about your grandparents?

04:26

P: Uhhh. (3.0) Okay. (3.4) So my grandparents on my mom’s side (5.0) currently aren’t together.

But, they’re doing okay. My grandma is umm kind of taking care of her mom right now ‘cause she’s in a state where she, she can’t really live, be living on her own or anything. [5:00] So, she [that’s your great grandma?] huh?

05:02

I: That’s your great grandmother?

05:04

P: Yeah, my grandma’s taking care of my great grandma.

I: Okay

P: Yeah. Um, (2.3) and then my grandpa, he’s (3.0) he’s good. I ta-  I talk to him every once in a while. I call him. I go see him. Um, and then my grandma on my dad’s side, honestly, I haven’t seen her in a while. But I believe she is doing good.

05:46

I: Great. (3.8) What has been your favorite vacation in life?

05:54

P: Hmm. Hmm. (7.3) Hmm. (9.2) It (1.3) I guess (2.0) I’ll say one of my favorite vacations, was whenever me and my girlfriend went to San Antonio together. It was, a year ago? I think. (laughs) But we just went and just had a little get away from work and school and everything and it was just a good time.

06:48

I: That’s nice. What did you guys do over there?

06:51

P: We tried lots of new food places. We did the River Walk or we rode like the boat through the river. We went to like a botanical garden. We went, we took a day trip- or a night trip, I guess to Austin because it was like an hour away, so we did that too.

07:29

I: Nice. What are some of your favorite things to do now?

07:37

P: Hmm. (5.2) I like (4.3) (laughs). I like to (2.0) do anything art wise. So like painting, drawing, taking pictures of just random things over, like painting shoes or stuff like that and then I also like working on cars. Umm. I like hanging out with friends and family.(4.0) I like going to the gym.(3.0) Yeah.

08:33

I: What are some of your favorite family traditions either now or from when you are a kid?

08:41

P: Hmm. (1.8) I’d say, what I always remember like every year with my family during the holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, we always get together and like the family that’s out of town they come back into Cruces and we all just do a whole bunch of activities and hang out and eat food and open presents together at Christmas and it’s just always something we do. I like it.

09:26

I: Who do you look up to in your life?

09:32

P: Uh. My mom for sure. She’s just. (laughs) Honestly, I can talk to her about anything. Uh, she gives the best advice. Um, she’s just like my best friend, honestly. It’s her.

[10:00]

I: What languages do you speak?

10:03

P: Just English. I’ve been working on. I’ve been working on my Spanish, but, just English.

10:12

I: That’s good. Have you ever felt uncomfortable speaking any of the languages that you speak?

10:20

P: Uh. (5.0) No? Not really. Whenever I was younger though, I would like kind of have a hard time like talking and speaking. Like, and stuff like that, but I feel like I’ve gotten better at that.

10:42

I: That’s good. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up in why?

10:52

P: Oh.(9.3) (laughs) Honestly, I don’t remember. I think I wanted to be like a police officer. But not anymore. (laughs) I think I just wanted to be the, uh, I honestly don’t know. (laughs) It was just cool back then.

11:30

I: What advice would you give to your younger self?

11:35

P: Hmm. To never just (1.8) be scared to who- Er, to never be scared of like who you are. Like be yourself always and don’t care about what anyone thinks.

12:00

I: What has been your experience living in this region and how do you think it would differ growing up somewhere else?

12:09

P: Hmm. (6.0) I’d say. (6.2) Definitely growing up here.

12:31

I: Like just in like the southwest region in [yeah] general.

P: Uh. (5.0) Yeah. Oh shoot. (laughs)

I: Take your time, you’re okay.

12:45

P: Uh. Growing up here, (6.0) has been good? It’s just kind of like, well, for sure the food is good down here. (laughs) Like that’s one thing that I wouldn’t like take for granted from living like in New Mexico or down in the southwest or whatever because you’re not getting good Mexican food anywhere else. But other than that, definitely rough, rough summers. With the heat. But I think over all pretty good. I think it’s a good place to start out.

13:44

I: Nice. What is your favorite way to spend a day off?

13:53

P: Um. (3.0) To spend a day off I usually try to kind of have a self-care day like, go to the gym um like clean up around the house, make food, meal prep, might put face masks on and Do homework just have a nice like productive day, I guess. It can either go that way or I could want to sleep. On my day off.

14:46

I: Nice. What are some things you hope to accomplish in the next five years? This can be with your career, school, just in your life in general, whatever.

14:56

P: In the next five years. [15:00] Hmm. (8.0) I plan on graduating, first of all. I plan to (4.8) be better at finances and money just be stable in the area. Um, have a good job. Um, possibly be married? (laugh) or possibly like propose. But. Yeah, I think. I think that’s good.

15:53

I: Nice. If you’re comfortable, can you tell me what your biggest fear is and why? Or your biggest fears?

16:07

P: Um. (4.5) My biggest fears (9.0), would probaby- bly- would probably be (laughs) losing the people that I love the most. (3.0) That. Hmm. And. (10.6) Hmm. (3.0) I can’t think of anything else.

16:54

I: It could be like a silly fear too. Like if you’re afraid of spiders.

16:58

P: Clowns. Clowns is on top. That’s (laugh) my worst fear.

17:09

I: What has been the best thing that has happened to you?

17:14

P: Hmm. (5.6) Hmm. (9.8) The best thing that’s happened to me (7.8). Probably meeting my girlfriends to be honest. Um, she just makes me a better person. Makes me want to (3.0) like (2.0) try at everything and anything. Um, and I feel like I’ve just grown entirely, as a person since I met her.

18:16

I: If you feel comfortable, can you tell me what has been the worst thing that’s happened to you?

18:34

P: Um. (6.2) Probably whenever my parents divorced. It was just hard on everyone, especially me and my brothers and just seeing all the changes happen. From like everyone just being at the house every day, er doing things together, to not doing any of that really. And just seeing how much it’s affected my brothers.(6.0) um, It’s probably been the hardest on me.

19:35

I: How would you say you overcame that?

19:40

P: I wouldn’t say that I totally overcame that. Yet. I still working through how to go about that but definitely [20:00] is talking to different people like my brothers or my friends about those things have helped me.

20:14

I: That’s good. Um, what was the best and the worst dream you’ve had?

20:21

P: What? (8.0) Hmm. (4.0)

20:35

I: If you can remember them.

20:41

P: (laughs) Shoot. I (9.0) I don’t think I can remember like a best dream that I’ve had or even like a word stream, but I will tell you about the weirdest dream that I’ve had. (laughs) um, so one night, it was younger, it was when I was younger, I had a dream that (laughs) I was in a mall. Like a two-story mall and it was, everything was white. Like no color, everything was white. And it was just me in the mall. I was like, walking around everywhere. Um, and I’m like walking past this one store and I look in it (laughs) and I see there’s like lots of shelves in the store and they’re all white and then I kind of like see something under the shelves and it’s a bracelet but it’s orange. It’s not white, it’s orange. And so, I was like, hmm. Like that’s interesting, so I go over. And I’m like bending down. To go grab the bracelet, and this old lady pops out. And she like jumps scares me. She scares me. [ Out of nowhere?] Out of nowhere. Like she just pops out. From under the shelves like her head pops to where mine was kind of on the other side of the shelf. And then she starts chasing me all around the mall. (laughs) But that’s like not the weird part. The weird part is whenever I woke up. I went to my parents’ room (laughs) ‘cause me and my brothers always went over there like in the morning to say good morning or whatever. And I was saying my dream, ‘cause it was just weird. And then turns out my brother had the same exact dream that night too. Like, [that’s crazy] I’m not lying. I, I don’t know what it means. But. Yeah, it’s a little weird. Yeah.

23:31

I: That is weird. [(lauhgs)] But cool!

23:36

P: Yeah, I don’t know.

23:39

I: As of right now, what are your future plans? Like what do they consist of?

23:44

P: Um. (3.0) My future plans (5.0) kind of consist of the same things I would want like five years. Like to be financially stable, have a good career in what I want to go into which is like being a mechanic. Someplace. Um, but just loving what I do, kind of. (3.0) Um,(4.0) um, (8.0) hopefully getting ready to marry or like start a future with my girlfriend. If that’s whose wit- still with me. (laughs) But, yeah.

24:54

I: Nice. Um, where are you working right now, and can you tell me about what you do?

[25:00]

25:01

P: Um.  I currently work at a greenhouse nursery called Color Your World. Um, it’s just a plant nursery. I mostly do my cashier. I am outside, watering the plants, um, wading, doing irrigation. Um, unloading the shipments whenever they come in with new plants. Um, I’m forklift certified. (laughs) um. Just help upkeep the greenhouse pretty much.

25:59

I: That’s very nice. What was your first day of high school like?

26:11

P: Oh gosh, do I even remember that? (laughs) First day of high school. I just remember (6.0) having basketball practice that morning. (laughs) Like before my classes, basketball, the basketball class was in the morning, so I had to be there at like six. (laughs) Honestly, I don’t remember much.

26:49

I: What would you say to yourself five years ago? When you’re sixteen.

26:56

P: Hm. (7.8) Hm. (6.4) I would tell myself. (7.0) to (6.0) Hmm. (10.0) One second.

27:32

I: You’re okay.

27:43

P: Umm. I would probably tell myself to be careful with who you keep company with. (laughs) Just watch out, watch your back or, um, (8.2) I don’t know.

28:12

I: Just like people not looking out for your best interest.

28:16

P: Exactly. Yes, took the words right out of my mouth.

28:25

I: If you could be anything in the world, what would you want to be?

28:31

P: Hmm. (8.0) I (5.0) would want to be a billionaire. I feel like that would just solve all my problems. (laughs) Yeah.

28:54

I: Just keep playing the lottery. Can you tell me about your pets if you have or had any?

29:03

P: Um, so right now I have two dogs. One is. Hold on. (11.0) Sorry. (laughs) um, I have two dogs. One is a pit mix, and her name is Cinnamon. (laughs) I named her when I was ten. She is currently thirteen years old. She’s getting old. But I love her. That’s my baby. And then we have another dog. [30:00] He’s a chihuahua mix. His name is Duke. Uh, love him also. (laughs) But that’s my brother’s dog. But, and then (2.0) I have a cat. His name is Loki. He is crazy. (laughs) But um, he is (5.4) six? Seven months old? Um, he’s a black and white cat. I think that’s called a tuxedo cat. Um, but he does cuddle up and love on us and he sleeps with us. Yeah.

31:08

I: Nice. What are you thankful for in your life and why?

31:15

P: Um. (3.3) I think I’m most thankful for (4.1) just the people that I have around me right now. And. Like my friends, my girlfriend. My family (6.0) Um, I’m in a good place in school. Right now, so I’m just thankful for that too. Yeah.

32:03

I: Nice. Well, thank you so much for letting me interview you. I really appreciate it.

32:10

P: Thank you. (laughs)

32:14
